Commuting in the rain

I always say I love to ride in the rain. In fact, the more wind and rain at times is better. It allows you to get use to adversity and learn to over come it. I have to say the past week had been a bit of a challenge. Between the rain and wind and the poor road surfaces it makes me happy to hit the relative safety and quality pavement on the bike trails. I have seen more bad drivers doing stupid stuff than should be allowed. So how do you deal with these people?

I have to say I have found several ways to deal with the unskilled driver of a car. The best way is no doubt is a hand held air horn like the ones you can buy in the stores. I find this can be attached to most back packs, messenger bags, or packs. The advantage is people move away from loud noises. This makes them move away from you when they are too close. Not a bad little way to avoid getting run over, getting upset with a driver, or having them retaliate for you flipping them off.

The one thing that always make me smile is the look people give you in the rain, like you are some sort of alien from another world. I commute everyday on the bike and I had the most fun this week during the rain. Yes I have to say I enjoyed the odd looks and the fact that they gave me more room in the rain. So keep your gear ready, enjoy the rain and remember, Slow down to turn as tires slide out when wet. Have fun
